Bladt/Fulton Residence

Perched upon a 40 foot basalt plinth, this Lopez Island residence commands strong westerly views across the Straight of Juan de Fuca to Victoria, B.C. By carefully placing the house between a single Douglas Fir and a grove of Madrones, the views are preserved until one enters by rising through the trees on a ramp that rises along the east side. The visitor then emerges into the main living space to experience the spectacular view.

The interior is one, continuously open space with a guest room and office (the crate) separating the public spaces from the private. Service spaces occur in a 4' wide zone along the entire east side of the house.
